As a professional photographer I know how important it is to have a current family portrait hanging on the walls of my home. The first thing people ask when I talk about my family portraits is who takes the photos of my family. No I don't set the camera on a tripod and run into the photo after putting the camera on timer. I know what it takes to create an heirloom family portrait. The setup of the lighting, the posing, directing positions and expressions just the right way. Then the timing to get the shot at exactly the right moment to get everybody at their best. It may take a few tries, or even twenty or thirty but I know I can't do that myself. 

Luckily I have many friends who are experts at their jobs. They are certified professional photographers. They are members of the Professional Photographers of America and qualified Master Photographers. They are dedicated to their craft.

I know how hard it is to get the entire family to agree to a time and date, pick the location, and choose appropriate and flattering clothing for each family member. Nobody wants to do this again for at least another year so it better be good. There are no accidents. Professional photographers plan for everything. They have backup equipment, snacks for the kids, water bottles, wipes just in case, and maybe even dog treats in their camera case. Umbrellas, lighting equipment, extra lenses, and an assistant  to help with the gear.
